PodcastingHave you guys tried podcasting?

What is podcasting?

Simply put, podcasting is delivering content in an audio format to your audience.

Why does it matter?

Because it is unique.

Because not a lot of people do it.

Most bloggers prefer text because it is comparitively easy to write and publish. Most prefer text because of their fear to try new things, because of their nervousness to use their sound/speech to deliver content. Others don’t do it because they aren’t familiar with podcasting.

But, podcasting matters.

Because it helps you to build trust.

And it has a higher perceived value.

Allow me to explain:

Since you are actually using your voice to deliver the content, it adds a much more human touch to the content. The reader is able to relate back much easily and trusts you more (tell me, which medium builds trust faster? Words? Speech or Video? Of course, video does the fastest. Speech allows you to communicate or deliver the content with the tone (the tone matters, in writing, you have to convey the tone and idea through the words, which is hard).

I have tried podcasting.

Two times.

And both weren’t big successes.

But, I got great feedback.

I learned a lot of things.

That was back in March.

And now, I am back.

I have decided that I should continue and be consistent with my podcast (So, I will be – one podcast episode a month).

Anyways, I was also thinking about launching a podcast for Blogpreneurs (I need to think with Dev first, but I want to ask you guys, what do you think?).

I personally think we should wait a bit more and build a bigger audience, before we launch a podcast series.

As with you, what do you do?

Have you tried podcasting yet?

Why not?

Are you afraid?

What are you afraid of?

I was afraid too. I was nervous. Let me tell you what I did:

I wrote a script (in article format, so that I could publish it along with the audio).

I recorded the script in parts (It took me a while to get it all “right” without much interruptions). Recording in parts will help you to tackle the fear bit by bit, instead of doing it all right away and messing everything up.

Then, I removed and edited it in Audacity (Well, I recorded with Audacity). Note: Audacity is a free tool to edit audio, helps a lot.

Then I saved it as WAV file (For high quality) and re-edited it in Camtasia (to remove further noises). Camtasia is a paid tool for video editing and publishing. Awesome tool with great features.

Then I saved it again (This time, I think MP3 file).

I looked for places to upload.

I was thinking about uploading it to my own server.

But, that didn’t sound great.

Then I remembered about Ileane. She did podcasting. What did she use? I went to her Google profile and checked her podcasting blog.

Got it – Spreaker.

Spreaker is a free tool to broadcast and host podcasts (yes, limited memory).

I uploaded it.

Published it, on my blog, along with the script.

All together it took me 4-5 hours to do all this.

The most tedious part?

Recording itself. Thanks to Ileane – the publishing on Apple iTunes was easy.

It takes time. I realize that over time, it improves.

So, be calm. You don’t have to get it right the first podcast, second time, not even the hundred time (or maybe you should, because hundred sounds like a heck load of experience).

Wrap – What’s your excuse?

Why haven’t you tried podcasting?

If you have tried, how is it?

Are you maintaining a podcast now?

Why or why not?
